Page 1 of 8.:: Introduction ::.What if you were a motherboard manufacturer that catered to the most demanding of computer enthusiasts. Would you want to be the one company that could provide a seemingly limitless solution for the intended platform of choice?
Well I would too, and that is exactly what DFI intends to prove with their new NFII Ultra Infinity, a motherboard that can hold any K7 processor available. But why go to such extreme levels when AMD's new 64-bit K8 processors are now on the scene?
Because although the architecture of the K7 core is nearing an end, the platform upon which your PC is being constructed from is still expanding. VIA even recently announced their new KT880 chipset, their first stab at a dual-channel DDR interface for K7 processors, so the battle for platform supremacy for your mighty Athlon or little Duron continues on.So for all of today's intents and purposes, the question at hand is whether or not the DFI NFII Ultra Infinity will finally provide you with everything you have been dreaming about for your Socket-A chip.
and what about the rest of your PC? We do have high expectations, and DFI sure does think they've got the ticket to ride, but will the NFII Ultra Infinity crash and burn or take home the blue ribbon? Let's find out!.:: DFI NFII Ultra Infinity Specifications ::.Processor Socket A for AMD Athlon XP/Athlon/Duron 400/333/266/200MHz FSBChipset Nvidia nForce2 Ultra 400 Northbridge Nvidia nForce2 MCP-T Southbridge Nvidia 10/100 with ICS1893 PHY 6 x USB 2.0 ports (MCP-T built-in) 3 x IEEE1394 ports (MCP-T built-in with Agere FW803 PHY) Nvidia SoundStorm with Realtek ALC650 CODEC Silicon Image Sil3114 RAIDMemory 3 x DDR DIMM Sockets Max.

I searched the Inet and there are so many bios'es (Alpha, Beta???). Which one should I get?And how do I unlock my XP2800+ (MP that is )EDIT: By the way, which Nforce drivers should i install? I'm used to Via, so this is a big step for me.Which is the newest driver for my Soundstorm (win98&winXP)Which is the newest driver for my Nforce2 ultra chipset (win98&winXP) Can i use the Nforce4 install? go to nvidia's site and get the latest drivers for the nforce 2 chipset.
Do not install nfroce 4 stuff. As for bioses, just go out there and read what people have had some success with. I don't know bioses for the dfi board since i don't have one, but finding out what seems to be best takes but a half hour or so.Good luck with your new board. Top Categories CNET 100 Appliances Audio Cameras Cars Desktops Drones Headphones Laptops Networking Phones Printers Smart Home Software Tablets TVs Virtual Reality Wearable Tech Web Hosting Forums Popular Forums Computer Help Computer Newbies Laptops Phones TVs & Home Theaters Networking & Wireless Windows 7 Windows 10 Cameras All Forums Top Categories Apple Byte Carfection CNET Top 5 CNET Update Googlicious How To Netpicks Next Big Thing News On Cars Phones Prizefight Tablets Tomorrow Daily CNET Podcasts Top Categories Cheapskate Best Tech Under $50 All Deals Tech Deals Non-Tech Deals Audio Deals Cell Phone Deals Desktop Deals Laptop Deals Hard Drive & Storage Deals Printer Deals Tablet Deals Camera Deals Monitor Deals Software Deals TV Deals Web Hosting VPN Services WordPress Hosting Domain Names Keyboard wake up, wake on modem (WOM), RTC (real-time clock) wake up, suspend to RAM (STR), wake on LAN (WOL), mouse wake up, wake on USB port, wake on ring (WOR),Keyboard wake up, wake on modem (WOM), RTC (real-time clock) wake up, suspend to RAM (STR), wake on LAN (WOL), mouse wake up, wake on USB port, wake on ring (WOR) CPU core temperature, chassis temperature, CPU fan tachometer, chassis fan tachometer, system voltage,CPU core temperature, chassis temperature, CPU fan tachometer, chassis fan tachometer, system voltageGeneral cnet Reviews All Reviews Audio Cameras Laptops Phones Roadshow Smart Home Tablets TVs News All News Apple Crave Internet Microsoft Mobile Sci-Tech Security Tech Industry Video All Video Apple Byte Carfection CNET Top 5 CNET Update Next Big Thing On Cars Tomorrow Daily CNET Podcasts More About CBS Interactive About CNET CNET 100 CNET Deals CNET Forums CNET Magazine CNET Mobile Help Center Permissions Follow CNET via. Facebook Twitter Google+ YouTube LinkedIn Tumblr Pinterest Newsletters RSS HomeFAQForum Forum Home My hard drive isn't recognized My CPU isn't recognized Video (VGA) and other BIOS/Firmware Other BIOS update issues My motherboard is dead Power Management dfi nfii ultra infinity bios RAM compatibility with BIOS Notebook BIOS problems What is my motherboard? Where can I find a motherboard manual? What does this BIOS or Jumper setting do? BIOS Utilities & Flash Programs In-depth High-tech BIOS section General Site suggestionsBlogBIOS UpdatesBIOS IDs Motherboard BIOS IDs overview Acer BIOS IDs Award (Phoenix) BIOS IDs AMI BIOS IDs Intel AMI BIOS IDs Intel Phoenix BIOS IDsDownloads BIOS Utilities Award Flasher AMI Flasher Phoenix Flasher ASUS Live Update Widescreen support SiS VGA Patched BIOS with Large HDD Support (64GB/128GB)Contact About us Contact us Advertise I've had problem with my PC and I've tried pratically everything.I've decided that a BIOS flash may be my last option.Where do I get the lastest BIOS for a DFI NFII Ultra Infinity motherboard?Best utility to use? Thanks in Advance. For MS-DOS: https://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/NF2UIDB24.zip Windows based update: https://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/NF2INF_DB24.exe Thanks - Which one is more stable (less risky?).that was my Last question! Thanks Well, I used the DOS based one, but didn't re-name the new BIOS (found this out aferwards.) so after the flash, and a reboot - NOTHING!! Not even a BIOS screen.I removed the battery from the motherboard and left out a few minutes, put it back in and started up - Back to origional BIOS now.
Windows loads fine, but my antivirus expired!! Does a battery removal remove any subscriptions to software?Allowing for the fact that my mistake was NOT renaming the revised BIOS at FLASH, if I do it again will it work?! Rainbow wrote:Removing the battery caused the CMOS settings to be reset, including date and time. The antivirus is probably confused by the date going backward OK - I've reinstalled antivirus and alls well now.I'm still stuck with my old BIOS.PROBLEM:After I create my boot disc from the files recommended above, the instruction reads that I will be prompted to re-name the BIOS to the new version, but I can't enter any info, it just moves on with the flash. So it could be overwriting the old BIOS with the new causing a conflict. Are there any windows based apps that will do the same, and are a bit more idiot proof!
The 'windows based BIOS' linked above prompts me for a floppy - so I assume its NOT windows based and just another Dos Boot Disc creatorThanks sticker wrote:The 'windows based BIOS' linked above prompts me for a floppy - so I assume its NOT windows based and just another Dos Boot Disc creator You're right, is not a Windows-based upgrade, sorry. It's a disk image.Instructions for BIOS upgrade (MS-DOS):https://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/mb_faq_us . US&SITE=US Winflash instructions under 'Updating the BIOS' section (Winflash):https://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Manual/nfiiuinfinity 75300331.pdf I've used the DOS based flash linked here TWICE and had to change the battery after each time. There's no mention of re-naming the BIOS file in DOS in the instructions of your link, so I did it right.
Must be the wrong BIOS.??As I said before, Is there a stable / reliable WINDOWS based BIOS updater? Also, If I boot from the floppy, I'll NEVER get a DOS prompt! It'll just run the app! Thanks Some info on the WinFlash utility here:https://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/mb_faq_us1.jsp?FAQ_ID=3062&PAGE_TYPE=US&SITE=US Download the latest WinFlash utility as recommended (at the link above) here:https://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Driver/WinFlash-875Inf.zip Unzip and run the WinFlash utility with the matching BIOS and you should be back in business.
There is a Help file in the zipped file as well. sticker wrote: zonxar wrote:Some info on the WinFlash utility here: https://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/mb_faq_us1.jsp?FAQ_ID=3062&PAGE_TYPE=US&SITE=US Download the latest WinFlash utility as recommended (at the link above) here: https://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Driver/WinFlash-875Inf.zip Unzip and run the WinFlash utility with the matching BIOS and you should be back in business.
There is a Help file in the zipped file as well. Many Thanks! Although first link dead. When I UPDATE BIOS within winflash which file do I point to when prompted? Depends on what file or filename is needed. If Winflash wants to load the new Bios then point it to the uncompressed new Bios file. It may ask you to enter a name to save the old Bios, just use oldbios.bin for this purpose Strange, the link works fine for me.This information applied to :BIOS ID error Doc.

Are you sure to progrI would like to say that this new Barton project is alot of fun. If anyone is looking for a cost effective gaming rig this board is worth a look. I bought this board and a 2500+ mobile for around $200 at newegg and it is worth every penny.System specsDFI NFII Ultra Infinity2500+ Barton Mobile2x512 OCZ pc3700 gold rev.2ATI 9800xtWindows XP pro SP1As most of you know AMD is locking the Barton's, some people are getting lucky and getting them unlocked but the only sure bet for a unlocked chip is the mobile.
The chip I have will do 2.7gig watercooled and will do 2.6 with a slk-900 and 92mm fan at 1.8 volts. The first few days a had the system I ran it 13.5x200 and was tickled pink by a 2.7gig barton. Then I started to try to find the sweet spot, wich is not easy with a bios that has this many tweaks and a unlocked cpu. I am running rock stable the past couple of days at 230x11.5 and I am sure there is more. I am hoping in the next few days to really push it. This board has alot of potential and there are many beta and alpha bioses writen by Oscar Wu at dfi-street.com so finding the best bios for your needs may take time. This is a great board and CPU combo for anyone who loves to tweak, the possibilities are endless.
It is also a nice chioce for the gamer who want's to save some money because dollar for dollar this system will be hard to beat. The 3700gold rev.2 works very well in this board but I feel a better choice would be the OCZ 4200el because many people are getting 250+ with this board and it's big brother the Lan Party. Or for some low fsb overclocks I am sure some nice bh-5 would be great if you can get it.All benchmarks were ran @ 230x11.5 2.5,3,3,73dmark 2001 19299sandra cpu bench dhrystone 9965/whetstone 4156sandra mem bench buffered 3449/3250super pi 1 million 39sec dfi-street.com?
I'm not getting anything other than a coming soon web page. :(I did not realize you decided to try an Athlon?I'm Athlon free-what a change. :pI do like my DFI LANParty 875P with OCZ 4000EL Gold though. :) Pointreyes,I honestly did not have very high expectations when I ordered the board and cpu but this rig rocks:)Sorry i could not post images for the benchies but I could not figure out how with the new forum setup  Pointreyes,I honestly did not have very high expectations when I ordered the board and cpu but this rig rocks:)Glad you like it.
Dfi nfii ultra infinity bios like the Athlon but I made a vow to use only motherboards that use the same name for the manufacturer of the proc for the chipset. However, I do get a kick out of the fact that only my dual Opteron does not have a problem with DivX 3.11alpha codec playback. All of my Intel rigs error out on the codec.
:( I sold my dual Athlon system and built a dual Xeon system with a very fast RAID5 SATA configuration.https://www.abxzone.com/forums/attachment.php?postid=694678Hehe, looks like RAID0 with Raptors on an ICH5R-but these are Seagate 7200.7 drives on a 133Mhz PCI-X RAIDCore 4852 controller. I was trying to squeeze a few more points in on the mem contest and managed to bugger up windows - and then after a reinstall, I screwed the memory timings to the point I had to clear the cmos, which brings me to my point. And I'm dfi nfii ultra infinity bios it's an obvious one but I'll post it anyway. This is my first board with raid capability and my first with sata.
The default bios setting buried on the bottom of the genie bios section of the bios is sata-raid. I guess this would be fine with a raid setup but I only have a single sata drive right now. I had customized an xp install disk with the drivers I needed (since I don't have a floppy installed to load the sata drivers during install) - after installation the raid controller shows up as unknown hardware. There are 2 drivers available from silicon image, the sata and the sata raid.
Windows would not accept the non-raid drivers so I tried the raid drivers and all looked good until reboot and then windows hung at startup. After I found the bios setting to switch from sata raid to plain sata and then rebooted to last known good I was able to update hardware with the non raid drivers.
The controller then shows up as a satalink controller, not a raid controller. This is just a heads up to any other sata newbies like myself who plan on running this board with a single sata drive (or multiple sata but non-raid?) make sure the sata bios selection and the sata drivers you choose to install jive with each other. The manual is quite vague. Make a bootdisk then download NF2In6191.zip version ,unzip the files to the bootdisk floppy, reboot PC with the floppy disk in the drive at A: just type "AWDFLASH N24ID619.BIN /F/QI/CC/Sn/Py" without speachmarks, remember to do this below, Click to expand. When I tried the "diamond flash version" it would not flash said wrong"BIN" so I went with the zipped version & that flashed fine,if it flashed ok for you then you should be fine. A few weeks back, I was resurrecting some old PC components to create a file/torrent server.
After checking all the components, replacing the CPU & the RAM, I had a fully functional system. However, when I added a few terabyte HDs I found the embedded SiI3114 controller wasnt so happy with them; The system hung at the controllers BIOS drive detection. After a bit of Google-ing I found it could be solved with a simple BIOS update. Phew, saved right? Guess againApparently, the latest BIOS update was only for PCI cards using the SiI3114 chip.
The embedded chips have their BIOS integrated into the systems BIOS. Checking DFIs support site, it seemed I already had the latest system BIOS.So I was left with only one option: assemble my own BIOS.Looking through various forums, I found a nifty utility: CBROM [2016 EDIT: link fixed].
It allows you to integrate or remove addon BIOSs from a system BIOS, so after carefully reading up on it, I managed to remove the old SiI3114 controller BIOS and integrating the latest one.Since the PC in question only had a floppy drive flash option, and only a DOS utility for flashing, I created my own boot CD containing DOS 6.22, the modified BIOS and the flash utility. After booting that & flashing, the drives worked perfectly! All in all, a lot of time went into finding a solution for this problem, but it saved me from having to buy a new motherboard, or an entirely new system.
Plus messing around with the BIOS was fun.For anyone who is interested, Ive uploaded the files Ive created here. Unfortunately I cant get it to work. When I try to change the drive from a: to r: or s:, it only briefly flashes that letter, then reverts to a:. Am I doing it wrong?Id appreciate any help. Thanks,Sam Hi, i really would like to use your solution at this problem, as im in the same case as your were (trying to resurrect that old dfi MB ^^). I wanted to download your files but download links are dead, could u reupload please ?Many thanks in advance ! Hello! What I just read sounds like S.-F.but in the good sense!
Could you please help me with something similar? I have (beside my new laptop) an ooooold motherboard ASUS A7A266, with a well known programming (BIOS) defect: it pretends (in the manual) to accept 2 GB RAM, actually the max. is 1.5GB. The defect described by someone on a forum when you try to insert 2x1GB the motherboard see as 0GB.Would be possible to correct that?Thank you! Dragos, thats a very different problem unfortunately.
With this mod I simply injected updated SATA firmware supplied by the chip manufacturer into the old BIOS, but your problem sounds like its a bug in the actual main BIOS. The only updates for that are the ones officially released.Technically, its probably possible to fix unless its a hardware error. However to debug that youd need to be very familiar with the inner workings the BIOS and assembly. Thank you very much for your answer.
Unfortunatelly I flashed the last stable BIOS and the latest beta released just before ASUS stopped the support (long ago), with no effect.
It is clearly not a hardware error this specific problem made a lot of waves on forums more than 10 years ago. Somebody discovered and explained the problem: one number was written wrong in the BIOS. Every time you upgrade the RAM from 250MB to 500, from 500MB to 1 GB, from 1 to 1.5 the motherboard see perfectly the RAM. So, having 2 sockets for RAM sticks, it was intended to accept up to 2 GB (1x 1GB).
But when you introduce the 2x 1GB of RAM that wrong number makes the motherboard see 0 instead of 2. It was never a matter of not being able (or projected) to reach the 2 GB, just a programming error.I really wish I could have more knoledge in this field This BIOS was made by combining the latest official release with the latest controller BIOS (at the time), so aside from supporting more HDDs itll have the same features as the latest official release.
No idea if S3 resume on USB works or not, the motherboard in question died on me years ago.Usually motherboard revision still use the same BIOS version, I dont know which revision I used. Newest update turns Pokemon Go into Pokemon Go Fuck Yourself for root users.
